Experience the islands without leaving Drakesville. You can't miss this place right on the water, where crowds bustle, music blares and tropical drinks are flowing. Enter the jungle-like atmosphere and you'll be amazed at the mural all over the building, which was painted by seven Haitian artists over a period of nine years. There's plenty of live music in the evenings; the cover varies according to the artist. Tasty Latin cuisine is served inside and outside, and there's a small dance floor. The spacious bi-level building accommodates big crowds, and the reggae and salsa music, along with scantily clad dancers, adds an exotic flair.

No New Posts Binks

With a garage door for a front entrance you wouldn't expect Binks to be the place that it is. The walls are decorated with vintage beer signs, a very busy pool table is always game, and one of the best jukeboxes in town is always at your service. A set menu of reasonably priced snacks served up in heaping portions is listed on the wall. This is a place where you can disappear on a date to a private alcove, enjoy a summer's eve dining on the patio or just saddle up to the bar for a drink.

No New Posts Ali Baba

Hummus-hued walls, hardwood floors and colorfully upholstered banquettes characterize this intimate Horace Street spot, an enterprise that began life as a Turkish-style pizza joint. The pizzas are still there (and as delish as ever), but the menu has expanded greatly from those early days. The usual suspects of hot and cold mezes highlight the array of opening dishes, and the always formidable chef's suggestions include pepper steak, homemade manti and lahana dolmasi (cabbage stuffed with lamb, rice and fresh dill). Stop by on Tuesdays around 9pm, and you'll be able to catch the belly dancers.

No New Posts Marquee

"Exclusive" barely hints at what this chic ultra-lounge is all about. Sleek yet classy, refined yet sexy, Marquee's evocative layout is truly a piece of art unto itself: vaulted ceilings, a "wishbone" staircase that leads to the VIP area upstairs, pendant fixtures, a grand "disco" chandelier, and a dance floor flanked by comfortable banquettes. Gaining admittance can be quite a feat on certain nights, so be sure to dress your best and bring along a few pretty faces

No New Posts Zinnie's

Popular with a younger (and louder) crowd of young professional and college kids, Zinnie's is one of downtown's more popular joints to stop in and grab a bite to eat and drink a few brews. The bar hasn't changed much over the years, and it's always been a great place to play pool, toss darts or catch a game on the tube. If you get hungry, the Cheese Coney and the catfish sandwich are two menu items highly recommended by locals. You might be surprised to find that Zinnie's East is located only a few paces down the street, and it offers a patio area that gets pretty crowded in the spring and summer.

No New Posts Twin Lakes

These peaceful, fish abundant old stripper pits mirror eachother it seems. Both are shaped like crescents, and are very large, and very deep. There is alot of swimming and just peaceful serenity that goes on out here. This is on private property, so many of the youth just sneak out here to reflect. The lakes, when alot of rain comes, sometimes overflow and join eachother to make one large lake. But normally, the two lakes are surrounded by a 4 feet wide strip of land.

No New Posts Goldmine Ranch

Gold was first discovered in the area of Drakesville in 1824, and over the next century the precious metal was mined fairly exhaustively by Dutch, British and American companies. Today, this ranch near the original mines operates as a tourist attraction, guiding horseback riding trips to several of the harder to reach spots along the northeastern side of the island. Along with the mine ruins, you'll see Wariruri Beach, the breathtaking white dunes, and plenty of indigenous wildlife. Trips last about two hours.

One of Drakesville's perennial favorites, this happening club is constantly filled with tourists and locals looking for vacation adventure. When they're not dancing to Top 40 and house tunes, they're laughing and drinking with friends or checking out the servers, who often sport the latest, most stylish bikinis. The place is open late, and casual clothes are practically mandatory, so there's nothing to stop you from heading over. No New Posts Westend Trailor Park

It’s a good example of what’s happened to most of Oldtown; it’s slipped into poverty, become old and run down, and not the safest neighborhood around. Owned and operated by one of the worst land ladies you could ever want, this isn’t somewhere most people would choose to live if given the choice. However, if you have a low budget income, it is often your only choice and best option. A bit of advice: knowledge of self-protection is a must. Drugs and crime are not uncommon in these parts, and while you can manage to find some decent good families, they’ve all in some way or another felt the affects of poverty and what comes with it.
