BEHIND THE SCENES
Personality:
Calixte has a personality best described as fiery and uses the excuse “shit happens” to explain most situations. Unless you know her, it’s hard to determine if she’s being rude or sarcastic and even then it’s difficult. More importantly, Calixte tells it like it is, no strings attached. She tells people what they need to hear, not what they want to hear. With such an impudent approach, she’s been called every name in the book and she doesn’t waste her breath in any attempt to deny it. It’s honesty that she aims for and she’ll treat you with respect if you return the favor. Many believe she sets out to find trouble, but because of the spitfire devil inside of her, it’s the opposite. Trouble just has a way of finding her.
Calixte isn’t the type of girl who complains because she lives her life by her own rules, and while she does know right from wrong, if something bothers her then she will simply change it. Rules are meant to be broken, after all.
Outgoing, athletic, and competitive, Calixte will go to the utmost extremity if challenged. Suggest she cannot do something and she will find a way to prove you wrong. She has no fear of speaking her mind to anyone and is definitely not afraid of a fight, girl or guy. Get in her face and she will tell you to ‘fuck off’, and if that doesn’t work, well, use your imagination.
Calixte will use the persuasion of her body to get something she wants. She’s a manipulative thing, a vixen if anything, and never ceases to get things her way. If it means sleeping with a dozen or so men, so be it. She has a notorious reputation for breaking hearts and accounting for the many divorces in the city. In her eyes, anything male and somewhat handsome is fair game, and that’s what it is to her, a game. She never sees the severity of her actions and palms things off to others, something that has stuck with her since she was a child after being raised by her wealthy parents. She holds a strict “friends only” policy when it comes to relationships. After witnessing her mother fall apart from heartbreak, Her belief in love, any kind at all, is slim. She believes the vulnerability to be too risky.
She will never allow anyone to get close to her emotionally and at the first sign of feelings, she will walk away and not look back. Calixte has learned to lie over the years, manipulate others, and do what she can as a means of survival. She refuses to be used and insists that she is the one doing the using. Overall, she never allows her emotions to get in the way of her better judgement. She makes no promises toward anything other than the precise moment and prefers to live in the present than the past or future.
When it actually comes to her friends, Calixte’s genuine. She will stick up for them until given a reason not to, but that doesn’t mean she trusts people easily. With each passing year, she began to toughen herself up after witnessing deceit. She’s learned not to trust even the nicest of persons, because chances are she will only end up hurt. In reality, Calixte would love to be able to place her trust in someone. She would even be eager to do so should they be the “right” person. It just takes time for her to decide if said person is the right person. In a way, inside, she’s searching for someone who will cherish and love her. She wants to feel needed, to feel wanted, and be loved in return. That’s not too much to ask, is it?
And while she forgives, Callie rarely ever forgets. She doesn’t disagree with the idea that she holds grudges, because she does and she knows it. Her policy is “screw me once, shame on me, screw me twice, shame on you.” No one ever actually gets close enough to hurt her, though, and once someone has crossed that line with her there’s no going back.
History:
The story begins with a young female from a financially troubled family, Carissa Sanders, struggling down a cut through in her hometown she had traveled over the years since it was the shortest way from school to home, and a home schooled farm boy, Daniel Falke. Falke was a name well known around there, seeing how ‘Falke Company’ was one of the largest produce providing companies and had the best ranch in those parts of town. To her dismay, she learned her cut through was on one of their properties. Immediately she apologized, but Daniel stopped her and said his intentions weren’t to scold her, but to ask her to dinner. She said yes. Three years and nine months later, on February 18th, at 4:30am, in the Falke’s hayloft, Carissa gave birth to Lucas Tyson Falke. Soon after, the couple was wed and the gift from Daniel’s parents was the entire company. This shocked the both of them, but no one could be more ecstatic and grateful. Never had things been so great. She may have been a young mother at the age of nineteen, but she was blessed with all she needed: a family and love. Two years and a few months later, Calixte Kassandra Alanis Falke was born at 5:30am on October 13th.
Calixte was a happy, energetic baby. She rarely cried, even when she scraped her knee because her brother influenced her to be tough and we all know only ‘babies’ cry. What sister sees, sister does, and she followed in her brother’s footsteps like a natural.
Calixte had barely just turned five when she walked in on her father standing too close to a woman that wasn’t her mother. He hadn’t been expecting anyone home so early, but at the time she couldn’t understand why he was so surprised and disgruntled she was home. Immediately, her father began sputtering, telling Calixte it had to be their little secret and not to let mommy know. She didn’t understand, but under her father’s reassurance that this lady was his friend, Calixte believed him. Fathers knew everything at that age. So the world continued to assume the family had was going great, because to that world it was. On the inside, arguments brewed every night between her father and mother. She would spend hours curled under the covers of her bed at the sound of glasses breaking and awake with tearstained cheeks the following morning.
If anyone ever said you can’t fall out of love then that person never witnessed the Falke family fall apart. No one really understood what happened to their love, but it reflected heavily upon the children. A year later, Calixte’s father left without a word. No goodbyes, no notes… nothing, even as his own six-year-old daughter closed the door behind him at four in the morning while he exited into the pouring rain. Calixte’s mother, while unhappy with their previous lifestyle, hadn’t wanted or anticipated this outcome. Carissa had wanted the fairytale, three-sixty degree turn around. The prince saves her from the gloom, changes his ways, and turns back into the man she loved. It never came. Carissa soon fell into a heavy depression with a diet consisting of alcohol and cigarettes. The happy atmosphere had dwindled down during those times and though the love between the family had been miniscule, it was there. But now? The idea of love was inexistent. Calixte never quite minded it, though. If she had never been given love and affection, how could she want it? She did what any other child would do: assume it was normal – that every child grew up like this, because she was only a child.
Lucas, however, was scarred heavily by these events and took a turn for the worst. He began falling into illegal activities, conversing with the wrong crowd, and soon, Calixte was following him like a lost puppy. He treated her horribly, tormenting and teasing her far worse than the average brother does. They often fought, verbally and physically. He always informed her that this is the world so to toughen up. She became involved in fistfights with her brothers’ friends and pulling through loose ends of operations they were too chicken to do. Calixte toughened up alright, in more ways than envisioned. All the while, their mother continued to wither away and with her, the ranch began to deteriorate. Their mother became an opaque pale, with drooping wrinkles, and a raspy voice; she looked old enough to be their grandmother, when she was, in reality, only in her late twenties. As she grew older, she didn’t mind the atmosphere as much. If her mother was never around, how could she miss her? Lucas and Calixte’s mother died when Calixte was nine. Love had become materialistic and the word bitter upon the tip of her tongue.
Authorities kicked into gear and managed to track down Daniel Falke in order to arrange the childrens’ custody. With much convincing, he agreed to return and held a high horse of how he was going to fix this family. Daniel returned with his much younger girlfriend and high hopes. In the end, he only managed to bring one of his dreams back to life: the ranch. As for the love he thought he could restore? Impossible. Calixte was as bitter as ever, Lucas even worse, and the family was torn. At age twelve, Calixte was put into juvenile for trespassing and breaking and entering on private property. She was discharged not too long afterward only to come home to find she had a stepmother. A stepmother who treated her and her brother no better than before and worse, even. Their father stays locked into his office, always with a vodka glass in hand.
